2010: International Year of Youth

By Alison Mackay / 10 March 2010

The United Nations has officially declared 2010 the “International Year of Youth.” The declaration is meant to energize young people and challenge them to tackle the world’s problems, from nuclear proliferation to poverty and hunger. The Year coincides with the 25th anniversary of the first International Youth Year in 1985 on the theme Participation, Development and Peace.

“The International Year is about advancing the full and effective participation of youth in all aspects of society. We encourage all sectors of society to work in partnership with youth and youth organizations to better understand their needs and concerns and to recognize the contributions that they can make to society.”

About us

This site is run by the Social Justice Commission of the Anglican Church.

We seek to nurture justice spirituality and imagination, and engage in advocacy in all areas of life, overcoming poverty and transforming violence.

We encourage people to think and live “justly”, and emphasise debate and action on local, national and global issues.

Although we are Anglican, our vision isn’t so much about being Anglican. It’s about living justly. Justice is about how you live your life, and being just where we are. Working together, we can all flourish.
