Government in-work tax credits under scrutiny by Human Rights Review Tribunal

By Anne / 4 June 2008

The Child Poverty Action Group is taking the Government to the Human Rights Review Tribunal over the way that its In-Work Tax Credit unfairly punishes the children of parents who are not in work, leaving a gaping hole in the social safety net for the 220,000 children of non-working parents. 150,000 children are estimated to be in severe or significant hardship due to the fact that their families are denied at least $60 in tax credits weekly on the basis of parents’ work status.

About us

This site is run by the Social Justice Commission of the Anglican Church.

We seek to nurture justice spirituality and imagination, and engage in advocacy in all areas of life, overcoming poverty and transforming violence.

We encourage people to think and live “justly”, and emphasise debate and action on local, national and global issues.

Although we are Anglican, our vision isn’t so much about being Anglican. It’s about living justly. Justice is about how you live your life, and being just where we are. Working together, we can all flourish.
