Is the only way to save the planet hard government legislation?
I have to admit I was kind of disturbed by some of Johann Hari’s arguments on the issues raised in this article. Will we really only save the planet if we are given no choice, if we are forced by legislation to make sustainable choices? Is it even possible to legislate our way out of this mess, or is legislation such a blunt instrument that it can’t save the planet anyway? Are we getting to a point where the dire state of our eco-system demands that we curtail freedom in order to save the planet? Or is there hope of getting there by more people becoming aware and making the right choices?
