Palestine-Israel land- but what would it look like for Maori?

By Ant / 7 June 2010

Everyone is familiar with the map of Israeli/Palestinian land and the way in which Israel’s continued aggression towards Palestine has led to the marginalisation and landlessness of its peoples. I’ve included the map here. It’s an appalling example of oppression.

But what would it look like if we did the same for Maori and the Crown, I wonder?

It would be an interesting exercise to map oppression and marginalisation in this way, and help us all see far more clearly the plight of Maori in these islands.

It looks like much of that work has been done – check out http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/interactive/maori-land-1860-2000 – but it makes for an even more appalling example in my opinion.

About us

This site is run by the Social Justice Commission of the Anglican Church.

We seek to nurture justice spirituality and imagination, and engage in advocacy in all areas of life, overcoming poverty and transforming violence.

We encourage people to think and live “justly”, and emphasise debate and action on local, national and global issues.

Although we are Anglican, our vision isn’t so much about being Anglican. It’s about living justly. Justice is about how you live your life, and being just where we are. Working together, we can all flourish.
