Restorative Justice and Practices in New Zealand: Towards a Restorative Society edited by Gabrielle Maxwell and James Liu
The quest for justice has been a powerful driving force in all human societies. In recent times, the notion of restorative justice has gained currency. To achieve restorative justice all those affected by crime must be involved in finding a solution – one that repairs the harm and restores broken relationships. This means striving to rebuild the damaged lives not only of those who have suffered but also of those who have caused suffering to others. This book provides an up-to-date account of how restorative processes and practices are being applied in New Zealand in the justice system, education, civil disputes and governmental responses to historical wrongs.
Dr Gabrielle Maxwell, previously Director of the Crime and Justice Research Centre, Victoria University of Wellington is now a Senior Associate at the Institute of Policy Studies.
