War
There is a big fuss arising just now about Taiwan buying armaments from the United States of America. I wonder just what sort of material is being traded and how much the balance could be changed, and a point made about the future of armed forces. People have tended to think of the turning of swords into plougshares as something not likely in our time, but nowadays it is happening, and not just with our NZ forces doing rebuilding in Afghanistan. Look at how it is only the military who have the helicopters and the men to get help into Port au Prince, and the United Nations starting to talk again of having permanent standing organisations ready to attend to the next disaster. We do it with out fire brigades, even to help out with a flood or a child in a tree.
