Billions of pounds being wasted on UN climate programme

By Ant | May 26, 2008

According to a story in the Guardian (here) a whole pile of money is being wasted by paying industries located in developing countries to reduce climate change emissions. That’s according to the UNs carbon offsetting programme.

Looks like chemical, wind, gas and hydro companies are regularly abusing the UNs main offset fund.

The effect of this is, of course, to render the offsetting programmes of many nations ineffective and impotent. No real cuts are being made.

The article is well worth a read.

That’s the trouble with free lunches. Sooner or later, perhaps our institutions and ideologies and idols might take their collective head out of the sand and recognise that the systems we have built are dependent upon exploitation – and perhaps we’ll only really wake up to that when we are the victims rather than the perpetrators.

When Asia becomes the first world, and we (and the USA) the second, perhaps things will all become more clear…

Oh, as an aside, did you know that America’s national debt is so vast that each citizen’s share is about $30K?
