This book by Robert Anderson gives authoritative reports from a German and other scientists on the use of hundreds of tons of depleted uranium (DU) by the US and Britain since 1991 in war weapons in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Balkans. This creates dangerous radiation levels in dust, soil, water and air, and by wind blown dust around the globe affecting humans and all other species. Doctors in Iraq believe it is the probable cause of the very high levels of leukaemia, cancers and very severe birth defects in the people and in returned US and UK servicemen. The effect on future populations exposed to uranium in the environment will continue for millennia, since it has a half-life of 4½ billion years.
The aim of this book is to create strong International pressure to stop what is essentially nuclear war.
We ask the Anglican Church of New Zealand that if it accepts these allegations, it condemns and publicises them and requests that the Archbishop of Canterbury and other Primates of the Anglican Communion do likewise.
This matter was brought to the attention of the Care of Creation Mission Team at All Saints’, Howick by the article in The Anglican, Sept 2005, and by the recommendation of the above book by the Social Justice Council in Addendum, March 2006, where it was reviewed.
